GAME 1 RECAP
B2 - Slayers Vs. The Mutiny - 1/7/05
A good-sized crowd at Chapman Hill was treated to a hard fought, defensive battle between B2 rivals Slayers and The Mutiny, in the first ever Friday Night Faceoff game. Slayers started and finished strong, while getting solid contributions from the entire roster throughout the game. An early first period goal by Ian Grammatica seemed to set the tone for their well-played, 3-1 victory, while their strong defensive play and relentless fore-checking really sealed the deal. Early in the third period with the score only 1-0 and The Mutiny beginning to pile up scoring chances, popular Slayers defenseman Jon 'BC' Young decided it was his turn for a date with destiny. A rabid Boston College fan, 'BC' darted in from the point during a Slayers power play, and fired home a loose puck, netting the game-winner and earning himself the game's First Star in the process. Moments later, Rory Donovan wrapped up the scoring for Slayers. For The Mutiny, unheralded sophomore sniper, Hans Hollenbeck netted the first goal in team history, and players such as Bryan Hollis, Cliff Little, Molly Marquez, and Chris Forrest (1 assist), contributed mightily. Goalies for both teams, Marc Vetri (The Mutiny) and Brian Capsay (Slayers) also turned in solid performances, while Slayers players like Ryan Jervis, Arlo Grammatica, Matt Rousseau, Kevin Grady & J.R. Ryan offered their usual hard work and sound decision-making skills. Other game notes: 2nd Star was Ian Grammatica (Slayers), 3rd Star was Hans Hollenbeck (The Mutiny). Penalties - Abe Saunders, Bill Graham, & Matt Rousseau (all on Slayers) each picked up 2 minute tripping minors. Bryan Coombs of The Mutiny got a 2 minute minor for roughing, then after 'BC' Young's goal, he earned himself a 2 minute unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Bryan Hollis (The Mutiny) received a 2 minute tripping penalty which was erroneously announced as a penalty on Barb Richter. Referees for the game were John Meade and CJ Fuss. Attendance was estimated to be around 68-75. $58 was raised for the Chapman Hill Improvement Association (CHIA) via the Puck Throw raffle. CHIA is raising money to improve/replace the current bleachers/stands in the arena. Huge thanks to everyone who supported CHIA by purchasing a raffle puck!!
